Kings & Corn, Tordrillo Mountains, Alaska

We are just wrapping up an incredible week of Kings & Corn in Alaska’s Tordrillo mountains, exhausted but happy after 5 days of fishing and skiing hedonism at the Winter Lake Lodge.

We had a particularly fun group for this session with Josh Reibel pulling together a great group of skiers and our film crew from Outside Television along for the ride.  Guides Mike Welch, Zach Crist and Lauren Georgelos kept everyone safe but put everyone on new terrain and pushed us to new heights.  The heavy winter’s snow pack was melting fast, with Alaska experiencing record warm temperatures.  But the skiing was incredible, with the group naming several first descents in the northern Tordrillos.

Meanwhile, the fishing started slow, with the gang focusing on fat rainbows until the King salmon made their annual pilgrimage.  And, just as hoped (and needed!), the Kings turned on over the last couple of days.

And at the end of the day, we returned to the Lodge to refuel.  Shenanigans ensued – watch the episode on Outside Television this fall to learn clever uses for mousetraps and a mosquito attractant called Octenal, and the age-old adage about keeping your friends close…
